1. Knock Knock jokes
My parents taught Caroline a bunch of knock knock jokes this past weekend and she thinks they are hilarious. She even makes up her own jokes. She throws her head back and laughs so hard at her jokes that I can't stop laughing! Here are two she made up and told Kevin over the phone this weekend:
Caroline: Knock Knock
Kevin: Who's there
Caroline: Orange
Kevin: Orange who?
Caroline: Orange juice
Caroline: Knock Knock
Kevin: Who's there
Caroline: Red
Kevin: Red who?
Caroline: Red marshmallow
2. Playing teacher
On Sunday night, Caroline picked out a book for us to read before she went to bed. But instead of having us read it, she surprised us and "read" it to us. She sat on her Porter the Puppy chair, read a page to us, and then stood up and walked around the room holding the book like a teacher so we could all see the pictures. They she asked us comprehension questions. For example, "Raise your hand if you know why he didn't close the "frigalator (refrigerator)". When my dad answered her question, she said "That's right, Papa. Good job!" and gave this funny little fake smile.
3. Caroline's teacher, Ms. Toney, sent a letter home to the parents last week and said the children are all of a sudden acting terrible at school - hitting, yelling, fighting, pushing, etc. So, of course, I emailed her from my Blackberry as soon as I read that and said "I want to know what Caroline is doing so we can address the behavior with her." Here is Ms. Toney's response:
"Yes the kids have been totally crazy lately. Caroline is really fine. The only thing she ever gets in trouble for is talking. That girl can really talk! LOL She just can't help herself."
This is the same child who we intentionally didn't put in a Montessori school because we thought she was "a little behind" in her social skills and we wanted her in a "play-based preschool". Ha - I guess she's advanced in her talking skills. :) We had a hard time taking it seriously since she isn't doing any of the bad things but I tried to keep a straight face and talk to her about not talking too much at school. (Can you say "the pot calling the kettle black?" :) ) She really does talk all day at home too. Constantly. To herself. To us. To her dolls. To her new imaginary friends who she repeatedly reminds me not to step on.
4. Caroline has her first Zhu Zhu pet, a yellow hamster named Pip Squeak. She will leave him "on" and I will see a little "rat" moving across the wood floor and its scares the beans out of me! Pip Squeak has a slide and little play area - its really one of the funniest things I've seen. Caroline tells Pip Squeak to mind her and to be a "good little Zhu Zhu pet." He slept with her the first night but now she's found him a home in a empty cookie tin from World Market. He's really cute and it sure beats having a real hamster to feed and clean up after!
5. One day at the beginning of February, Caroline was going to the potty and asked me to come up with a Valentine song. So I made one up and she sings it all the time. The funny part is that she can't make the "V" sound so this is what she sings:
"Oh Balentine, Oh Balentine!
How do I love the dearly"
She laid in bed the other night and sang it for so long. I know I should have gone into her room and asked her to stop singing and go to sleep but it was too funny and I couldn't stop laughing.
