A moment of peace
William is 100 mph right now from the time he wakes up until he goes to sleep. He is constantly running, yelling, throwing, etc. He's a wild man. I snapped this picture of him during his nap today and just love how peaceful he is.

A day off = a trip to the zoo
Caroline had a school holiday on Friday for the Battle of the Flowers. Since we don't understand the meaning of the Battle of the Flowers, we decided to go to the Zoo with my friend Emily and her sweet kids.
The big kids are ready...

...and the little guys are too. (Love Cal's hat!)

First stop? To see the lion statue. You know, the fake lions. Definitely not the real ones.

On to the bear area where Caroline grilled a zoo worker about grizzly bears and how they make a plaster cast of the bear's paw prints and lots of questions about the bear's skull and how the lady knows it really came from a bear.

Still quizzing her...

Meanwhile, right behind the kids is a REAL bear standing right on the edge looking at us. While I took this picture, Caroline was still discussing things with the zoo worker.

I love this picture of the hippo!

Battle of the Flowers float
For the Kindergarten Fiesta parade at school, each child was tasked with creating their own Fiesta float out of a shoebox. Caroline decided she wanted her float to be a cat kennel with her stuffed animal cats inside. As soon as I read the instructions for the float, I decided it would be a great father/daughter project. ;)
Here they are planning.

Finished product - "La Casa Del Gato".

Ready for Fiesta!

Kevin surprised us and came for the parade.

The parade!

William really liked the floats too.

A visit from PawPaw Kenneth
Kevin's dad came to stay with us this weekend. The kids had a great time climbing all over him and talking his ear off!

We went to Piati on Saturday night.

At dinner, there were a lot of high schoolers going to prom so Caroline marveled at the girls' dresses. We went next door to Whole Earth and some of them did a puzzle with Caroline. She asked them if they had their own phones and if they listen to Taylor Swift. When we left, one of the girls pulled a flower out of her corsage and gave it to Caroline. Caroline said she couldn't wait to tell Rosemary that she got to meet "prom people."

Daddy/daughter date
Kevin promised Caroline a daddy/daughter date to Starbucks and, even though he had been at the Valero Open all day, she held him to it. She even asked him to dress up for it. Being the great daddy he is, he happily did as he was told.
When he came downstairs he leaned up against the wall and William walked up and decided to strike a pose just like Daddy.

Lego class
I took William to his first "Mommy and Me" class at a nearby Lego studio last week. It was a disaster. He didn't do anything the teacher asked him. Instead he walked up to her, shrugged his shoulders and said "balls?". Yep he wanted to play with balls. After he didn't participate long enough, the teacher brought out a bucket of balls and he shot baskets the entire time. I think they were glad to see us leave. It cost $8 for that class and I perspired the entire time hoping my beloved boy would participate. No luck but he had fun in the balls! (Did I mention this was at a Lego studio?!)

Caroline's art
So Caroline has become a budding artist overnight. When she's at home, all she does is draw, color, etc. She's been in an after school art program since January and she absolutely loves it. They work with different mediums every week and bring home neat artwork. Last week they worked with pastels and had to draw a bear. This is what Caroline brought home...

Being the fabulous mom I am, I asked if she accidentally brought home a 4th or 5th graders artwork. I can't draw a stick figure so I assumed (wrongly) that a 6 year old could not have drawn this. I was wrong - she had written her name on the back and showed me how she drew it. Also, she can Kevin worked on borders and she used what he taught her to do a border on here. Needless to say, we are proud!
When we drove to SuperTarget last week, Caroline read a sign that said "Fine Arts Festival". First of all, I have zero interest in anything related to art. (Sorry, but its the truth.) Secondly, I was secretly cursing Caroline's kindergarten teacher for teaching her to read so well. ANYWAY, Caroline was excited about the Fine Arts Festival so I took her on Saturday and we had a blast. There were tons of artists with booths set up and the artists were so kind to Caroline. They spent time with her explaining how they made their art, whether it was using glass, metal, pencil, or paint. We was completely mesmerized and I was so thankful them took an interest in a young artist. She even showed her pastel bear to one of the artists and he was very impressed. Here she is at the festival.
