Running at White Rock Lake
Saturday morning Kevin had his bootcamp fitness class at White Rock Lake. Caroline and I took the jogging stroller to jog while he worked out. She assured me that she needed to wear a dress and flip flops because she was going to ride in the stroller the whole time. (I know better.) So here she is jogging in her dress and flip flops along White Rock Lake with downtown Dallas in the background. When Kevin's class went for their 2 mile run, Caroline and I did about a mile - and Caroline ran the entire time - flip flops and all. The weather was gorgeous and we had a great time being out there together. Guess where you will find us every morning this coming weekend? ;)

Play Date with Grant, Trip to Denver, First Day of Preschool
We have a lot of ground to cover!!
First of all, a week ago Friday we met Sarah, Grant, and Nolan (Caroline calls him "Baby Melon") at the mall. Caroline and Grant are always excited to see each other and have so much fun!

Thursday night, Kevin surprised me and took me to the musical "Mamma Mia", which is my favorite musical of all time. It was wonderful! We left dinner and just kept driving until we were at Fair Park and I saw a Mamma Mia sign. I loved it and am still singing the songs! (He may think twice before taking me to a musical again. :) )
Friday morning we left for Denver for the weekend. We've been talking about going for a while and thought it would be a good way to escape the Texas August heat. Friday evening we went to the Breckenridge Brewery for a good Denver micro-brew and a bison burger. Then went to the Colorado Rockies/SF Giants game with my brother and some of his friends.
The highlight of the game was really watching the Yankee/Red Sox game on the scoreboard...It was 12-4 when I took this picture but the Sox made their "big comeback" to lose 20-11. Go Yankees!
Saturday we went to a place called Steuben's for brunch because it had been recommended by a few people. What a great place! It had the coolest, "Colorado" laid back vibe. (We went back for brunch on Sunday.)
Then we drove to Red Rocks and saw the Red Rocks Amphitheater. We had heard great things about Red Rocks but it was still breathtaking to see. We really want to go back for a concert there sometime.
We spent the rest of the day in Boulder in awe of the college students who go to school there and see the beautiful mountains every day. Apparently we were so in awe that we forgot to take pictures.
We had dinner in LoDo (Lower Downtown Denver) and absolutely loved the area! It is filled with quaint patio restaurants and wine bars. We ate at a restaurant called Osteria Marco that was so cute and the food was great. We spent the night walking around and ended the night on the patio at Samba Room - which was my favorite restaurant in Dallas until they closed it down a few years ago.
Flights out of Denver were crazy on Sunday and we finally made it back to DFW at 11:00PM, which was good because....
Caroline had her first day of preschool today! We had "Meet the Teacher" night last Thursday night and really liked her teacher and the school. Her teacher's name is Miss Toney but Caroline calls her Miss Pony - we're working on it. Luckily Caroline met some of the kids in the class that night so she at least knew their faces this morning when we brought her in. We are very excited about the new school and can't wait to hear about all the great things Caroline is learning!

When we hugged her bye she started saying "Don't leave me! Stay with me!" but by the time we walked out, her teacher was holding her and she was quiet. When we picked her up today she was happy and said she had a good day. She informed us that she likes her teacher and that she wants to see her tomorrow. Let's all breathe a collective sigh of relief! :)

News and Potty Humor
As my first post since the blog is officially secure, you will be sad to know that there isn't really any big news to tell you. The kind of big news is that Caroline is starting a new school on August 24 and we are really excited. When we made the decision to put her in this school, I went to post it on our blog and my instinct told me it wasn't a good idea to post where our daughter goes to school since her full name is at the top of our blog. Her last day at her current day care is on Thursday and we have "Meet the Teacher" night on Thursday night. Rest assured, we will have pictures to post of her first day at White Rock North School on Monday.
Anyhow, as we thought about the risks of having an "open" blog for anyone to read, it scared us a little. After all, I'm an auditor and am paid to be a skeptic about everything and apparently it is just now seeping into my personal life. Plus, I like to be able to say when we are going away for the weekend or going on a vacation without worrying about our house being robbed. (Ok, another inside joke since our house was robbed while we were in town.) That being said - we are going to Denver this weekend! :-)
So before I go to bed, I have a little potty humor to share. You probably know that potty humor and bodily functions aren't my thing and I don't find them particularly humorous. However, this story is funny and I promise its only PG rated.
Today, Caroline and I were in the living room and she tooted. We taught her to say "excuse me" when she toots or burps but she "forgot" today. So I decided to make fun of her a little and call her out. I said "Caroline, did you toot?" She looked at me, smiled, and said "No, my bama has hiccups." (Toddler translation - Caroline says "bama" instead of "bottom" which we still think is too cute to correct.) So her bottom had hiccups - you have to admit that's clever. Ok, that's it for my potty humor.

The coolest part of my job
Want to know what the coolest part of my job is? Its getting a text message from my brother telling me when he's landing at Love Field so I can go outside on the deck of my building and watch him land. How cool is that?!
So today, Mike landed right in front on our building and here are some pictures. They are in chronological order so you can feel like you were there with me and you can experience the excitement!. :)

Weekend in Beaumont
We went to Beaumont this weekend for Kevin's sister's Kim's wedding reception. (She married Chad in Mexico over July 4th weekend - see our Mexico post for wedding pics.)
Saturday morning, me, Kim, Madison, and Caroline went to get our nails done. Yes, it was Caroline's first manicure and pedicure!! As soon as Kim and I sat down in our pedicure/massage chairs, Caroline said "which one's mine?!" Here she is in a spa pedicure chair trying to figure out how to work it.
Right after the girls had their nails painted, they came over to show us.
Caroline was SO excited about her newly painted nails that she jumped around the nail salon. Ha!

After the pedicure, I found Caroline swinging in the backyard with PawPaw Kenneth, Kevin's dad. They were sitting in silence swinging together and it was such a sweet scene.
Of course, Caroline wanted to wear her flower girl dress again to the reception.

Kevin's cousin, Aimee and her daughter Emma. Emma is 1.5 years old and Caroline really enjoyed playing with her.
Here the girls are stuffing their mouths with cheese balls. Caroline's flower girl dress didn't stay white for long after she found the bowl of cheese balls.
Sunday morning, we had breakfast with Andrew and Pam Penner and their kids. Ethan (below) is 1.5 years old and, sadly, this was the first time we'd met him. He's so cute and LOVES Cheerios. Caroline swiped a few...oops. Look at those big, blue eyes! He is such a daddy's boy and was so sweet and happy.
Caroline and Ava (Andrew and Pam's daughter) "played checkers" at a little table at Cracker Barrel. It was so cute. They looked like they should be little old ladies playing checkers. I love Ava's gorgeous curls!!
