Lego Crocs

Yes I am posting about a pair of Crocs. When I was newly pregnant, I met Kathleen Trevino. Her two boys wore Lego Crocs and I fell in love with them. I thought "if this little baby inside of me is a boy, I will buy him Lego Crocs."

Now here we are. That little baby was a boy and is now a ridiculously cute toddler. I bought a pair of Lego Crocs for William on Saturday and I could not love a pair of shoes more than I love these! Or maybe it's the cute little feet they are on. :)

Meet the Teacher

Thursday night was "Meet the Teacher" at school and Caroline was elated to see her first grade teacher, Mrs. Burdwell.

Meanwhile, William practiced his yoga moves in Caroline's new classroom.

Staycation before school

We surprised the kids on Saturday morning and took them to the Westin La Cantera for the day and night. We had fun last year but now that William can do more, it was a blast. Both kids loved it!

William, like Caroline, is fearless!!

Making s'mores Saturday night.

Caroline made Kevin a necklace that says "Daddy" at the Kids Club.

Caroline got some good driving practice with the golf cart.

Kevin took Caroline to see an outdoor movie after William went to bed. They laid on blankets on the grass and ate popcorn - Caroline loved it!

Speech Therapy Assessment

Today William had his speech therapy assessment, as recommended by Dr. Pauli at William's two year check up.

As expected, William loved having the speech therapists here. He loved the attention and new toys and had them laughing in no time. Such a clown!

The assessment was very thorough (not all directly speech-related activities) and he did quite well...on everything but "expressive communication".

He did well on coordination, socialization, cognitive processing, etc. For expressive communication, which is spoken words, he shows a 6 month delay. Because he did well in the other areas, he averages only a 3 month overall developmental delay which doesn't qualify for speech therapy.

Overall, the assessment was a great experience. They confirmed what we thought and also put our minds at ease that he should start speaking more words soon. They also gave me some ideas of ways to work with him that I had not thought of.

Here are some pictures. He was personality plus during the assessment - ha!

William waiting patiently for our "friends" to arrive.

They said he performs at a 3 year old level with stacking blocks and other coordination activities.

Once he started stacking and building with the blocks, it was hard to get him to move on to another activity.

He is such a good sport and had a great time!

Shopping for Caroline's backpack and school clothes

Caroline has her own personality and style - which we love! Shopping for a new backpack and school clothes, however, has proved challenging. For backpacks she didn't want any prints, which is a challenge when looking for little girl backpacks. She fell in love with the LLBean classic pink backpack which I also love. But it doesn't have water bottle pockets which is a must for our little Jewel who tends to lose her water bottle most days. She settled on this one from Lands End. Super cute, right?

Caroline's does not have the dog (or any picture) on it and they have a letter limit of 7 characters. What?! So Caroline's says CJM which is so cute! (I secretly love our kids' initials - great for monograms which is very important. ;) )
Clothes shopping has also been "funny". I keep showing her cute clothes in catalogs or online and she says "no thank you" to all of it. So we went to Crazy8 yesterday against her will. :)
At the store she wasn't super interested in shopping but would give me a quick "yes" or "no" when I showed her something. She knows exactly what she likes so that makes it easy and efficient. :)
Once we got home, she put on a fashion show for me and had a blast! She loves her new clothes! She had me take pictures to send Nana and Papa so they could attend her "virtual fashion show". When Kevin got home, she did the fashion show all over again complete with lots of dancing, narration, and poses. Here are the pictures from early in the day -enjoy!

Random summer pics

Overall the kids have loved having so much time together to just play this summer. (I say "overall" because they have recently started fighting and its driving me nuts! I digress...)

Here are some random pictures from our summer that I haven't included on other posts.

Hollywood!

Caroline dressed as a cowgirl at HEB.

William rocking the Speedo.

Shopping at HEB. Caroline is too big for the car cart but they have so much fun together that I can't resist.

I made homemade sidewalk paint from Pinterest so the kids put together a masterpiece on our driveway.

This has been the summer of board games! Usually they are girly so Kevin has been a trooper.

Caroline asleep with "Penguiny" on her head.

Caroline's reading has improved dramatically over the summer. Here she is laying on the floor at Half-Priced Books reading through a new book.

The kids made a "secret" hiding spot under the desk where they can go read and we can't find them.
