Well, I'm really behind on blogging but we found out that baby #2 is a BOY!! We are really excited!
I must say that I've known from day 1 that this one was a boy. Let me also say that I was positive Caroline was a girl before we found out. (Kevin can vouch for this.) So either I'm a lot more in touch with my maternal instinct than I give myself credit for....or I'm a really good guesser. :) I had already bought baby boy clothes and only looked at baby boy bedding for baby #2 - so its a good thing I was right.
Caroline has named him Jack. Although we love the name Jack and we playfully call him "baby Jack", the name isn't actually on our list of names. (Don't break the news to Caroline - we don't know how she will take it.) We've asked her about some of our other boy names and she doesn't like any of them. Yesterday she told me she also likes the name "Gnomeo" for the baby....wonderful.
Since we know the baby isn't a girl, I thought I would post the girl names we liked. That way our kids can make fun of the names we liked just like we make fun of my parents for our almost-names. :)
Our girl name list:
Katherine/Kate
Claire
Kendall
Ella (Caroline's favorite)
Molly (Caroline's other favorite)

Fish Oil
At a restaurant recently, Caroline was talking to a man who was sitting at the table next to us. (She is insanely social and talkative right now. Not that she wasn't before, but she is SO outgoing right now.) The man told Caroline she was really smart and Caroline said the following: "Well, its because I take fish oil. That's why I'm so smart, because I take fish oil." She was so matter of fact about it and we were all laughing so hard.
The story behind the fish oil is that I bought a bottle of liquid fish oil when I found out I was pregnant since I can't swallow the big fish oil pills. I let Caroline try the fish oil one day and she LOVED it. So every day she reminds me that we have to take our fish oil to be healthy and smart. I would forget to take it but she loves it so much that she won't let me forget. (Her baby brother will thank her one day. :) )

The literal child
A few funny stories about how literally Caroline takes things...
1) At Chick Fil A last week Caroline was playing with a little boy who was probably 2.5 or 3 years old. When we were leaving I told Caroline to tell her friend bye. This is how it went.
Caroline: Bye, thank you for playing with me.
Boy: Bye, see you later.
Caroline (pauses and wrinkles her face in confusion): Well, I probably won't see you later.
Boy: Bye, see you later.
Me: Caroline, just tell him bye and that you will see him later.
Caroline (looking back at the boy): But I won't see you later. I probably won't ever see you again.
2) Caroline and I were walking in the neighborhood when Kevin came home from work the other night. (Naturally, Caroline was carrying her baby doll in the baby bjorn carrier while we walked.) We met him at home so he could come walking with us.
Caroline: Daddy, I want to play chase.
Kevin: Ok, but you might want to take the baby and baby carrier off so you can run faster.
Caroline: Well we can't just leave Ella here. She will cry. (We literally have this conversation everytime we go anywhere and get out of the car. It usually leads Caroline to asking us if we left her in the car by herself when she was a baby. We say yes...its just easier.)
Kevin: Well, Ella needs a nap. Put Ella down for a nap.
(I know exactly what's about to happen.)
Kevin (to me a few minutes later): Where is Caroline?
Me: You told her to put Ella down for a nap.
Kevin: I meant just lay her on the floor.
Me: Yes, but putting Ella down for a nap means taking her upstairs to Ella's crib, possibly putting her pjs on, getting her a stuffed animal, tucking her in with a blanket, and possibly singing her a lullabye.
3) We struggle with keeping Caroline in her bed every night. She likes to wander into our bed in the middle of the night and try to sleep with us. We even have a reward chart where she gets a stamp for each night she sleeps through the night without coming into our room. So the other night we reminded her that she cannot get out of bed for any reason. (Of course we meant with a few exceptions but you give this kid an inch and she takes a mile.)
Fast forward to the middle of the night...
Caroline (screaming at the top of her lungs): MOMMY!! MOMMY!! MOMMY!!
So I go into her room...
Me: Caroline, what do you need.
Caroline: I have snot coming out of my nose.
Me: Then get a Kleenex.
Caroline: You said I couldn't get out of bed

When I grow up...
My conversation with Caroline on the way home from a playdate today...
Caroline: Mommy, why does that man need sticks to walk.
(There is a handicapped man sitting on a bench waiting for the bus as we were driving.)
Me: Those are crutches that help him walk.
Caroline: Why does he need crutches to help him walk but we don't?
Me: Remember, some people get into an accident and hurt themselves or when they are born they can't use their legs like we can. (We have this discussion a lot.)
Caroline: I think he was probably hurt in a car accident. When I grow up I'm going to be a police officer and make sure people don't drive fast because when people drive fast they get in accidents and hurt people. And I'm going to have a police whistle and blow it really loud to make sure people drive safely.
Me: Ok.
Caroline: I will go to training like Daddy went to training for his job. But what if when I finish my training, they run out of those police hats and I don't get one?
A very thoughtful conversation...yet from a 4 year old point of view. :)

Disney World 2011
We just returned from our second trip to Disney World on MLK weekend. Even though we just went a year ago we decided to do something fun with Caroline before the baby comes. This time Caroline said she would only go to Disney World if Nana and Papa came...and they gladly used their vacation to be among Mickey, Minnie, and the princesses.
Let me start off by telling you that I bought a book called "Disney World with Kids 2011" and started reading it when we sat down in the plane. (It really is a good book - I used the 2010 version to plan last year's trip.) So the plane is pulling away from the gate as I read the following: "January, with the exception of MLK birthday weekend, is a great time to go to Disney." Oops. Last year we went in January and it was awesome - literally no crowds and no lines. This time was very crowded but the weather was still amazing so it wasn't nearly as bad as going in the summer. So when we recommend you go in January, let's add this disclaimer...any time in January except MLK weekend. :) Also, if you buy a book you should probably read it before you sit down on the plane...call me Type A. But we still had a great time!
On Friday afternoon, we saw my Uncle Wes who is recovering from knee surgery in a rehab hospital. Caroline brought him some acorns from outside. It was great to see them talk because it was their first time to meet. She had a lot to tell him about how she was going to see the princesses and Minnie. Kevin and I haven't seen Uncle Wes since our wedding so it was great to see him again.
Friday evening, we had dinner with my Dad's side of the family - his two sisters and their kids and grandkids.
Here I am with my cousin's wife, Mindy.
My dad and his sister, "Aunt Coke".
Poor Caroline only had six adults giving her their undivided attention. Bless her heart.
All of us after dinner...it was so fun to get to see everyone two years in a row.
Caroline and Maci playing with the jack-in-the-boxes.
Saturday morning we started off our trip on the right foot - Breakfast at Cape May with Minnie, Goofy, and Donald.
Caroline colored a picture of Minnie to give to Minnie when she saw her. In this picture, Caroline is watching Minnie walk towards her while holding the picture to give her. I love the look of anticipation on her face...priceless.
Giving Minnie the picture she colored
Caroline, Minnie, and the picture.
While we usually don't do the family photo with the characters, we all took one with Minnie since she is Caroline's very favorite character.
Caroline was scared of Donald last year at Disney. This year she loved him! He was a prankster at breakfast - he messed up Nana and Caroline's hair and picked on Caroline.
We spent the first whole day at Magic Kingdom...my parents grew up in Orlando when Disney World was being built. They enjoyed seeing that so much of Magic Kingdom is still the same.
Watching the parade and waving at Cinderella and Prince Charming.
Mid-day on the first day, Caroline fell asleep on the bus on the way back to the hotel for her nap.
Back to MK for the evening. If you've never seen the fireworks at Magic Kingdom over Cinderella's castle, you need to. Its absolutely breathtaking. (Don't worry, I can send you the 10 minute video I took if you're interested...that's how much I love it!)
Sometimes Tinkerbell flies from the top of the castle across the park...and we saw her fly two times when we were there - so neat!
This year's trip could be summed up with the following four words..."Dumbo and Tea Cups". Caroline couldn't ride the Dumbo ride or the tea cups enough...she loved them!
Walking into It's A Small World.
Epcot
Sunday morning, we had breakfast with the Princesses. When we were packing in San Antonio Caroline told me she didn't want to bring a princess dress. I was shocked but a little happy since I didn't have much room in the suitcase. Thankfully, my cousin's daughter Maci let Caroline pick out a princess dress to wear when we did the princess breakfast. Since Caroline doesn't have a Snow White dress at home, she happily chose that one.
That morning she also received her souvenir from Nana and Papa. Introducing Duffy, the new Disney bear...Caroline is in love with it.
Ring-a-round-the-rosy with Nana, Papa, and Duffy before breakfast.
Enter the princesses...
Last year Caroline was in awe of the princesses. This year, she was still in awe but she was more excited and talkative. It was so funny watching her talk to them and find something in common with each princess...so I guess my business networking class in college is paying off for Caroline. We had to tell her to stop talking so they could talk to other children. The same applied for all of the characters.
Walking at Epcot, Caroline was sleepy but wouldn't let go of her goldfish bag.
At lunch Caroline ordered white wine and we had to explain that she meant milk. Thankfully the waitress brought the milk in a wine glass so Caroline was really excited.
More tea cups.
At one of the 3D shows. We decided baby needed 3D glass...and so did the baby in Caroline's belly. :)
Cinderella's carousel.
Hollywood Studios
We rode the brand new Toy Story Mania ride and it was a lot of fun. If we hadn't waited in line for 45-60 minutes we probably would have done it again.
When Caroline talked to this Mickey she was very concerned with why he was wearing that hat and wouldn't stop asking him. Yet another time we had to pull her away from a character.
With Handy Manny (or "Handy Mandy" as Caroline calls him), Caroline was overly concerned about his tool belt. (Remember none of these characters can talk so she just keeps asking the same questions over and over again and doesn't understand why they won't answer her.) Another funny thing is that the characters kneel down on their knees so they are at the childrens' level. But every single time, Caroline kneeled down with them. Hilarious.
Caroline doesn't even watch Little Einsteins but she really liked June's earrings and kept asking her why she was wearing them.
Our last afternoon at Magic Kingdom...
We took Caroline to Toontown in MK the last night to ride her first roller coaster, Goofy's Barnstormer. It didn't go well. She was scared the first time she rode it but said she wanted to try again. After the second time, she was crying and saying "I never want to ride a roller coaster again." (Maybe she is my child after all.) Regardless, we are really proud that she tried it...two times!
After the roller coaster, we took her to the character spot for the princesses and fairies. Kevin waited with her in the princess like and I waited in the fairy line so she could cut in line with me after seeing the princesses...good parenting, right?
Here she is with the princesses...
Then the coolest thing that could happen to a 4 year old girl who is in love with the princesses happened...The lady who ran the princess area pulled Kevin aside and asked if she could talk to him. She said the princesses really liked Caroline and wanted to spend more time with her. The lady told Kevin to wait while they moved the other little girls out of the princess area. And then, Caroline sat around with Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Belle all by herself. Kevin videoed it with our Flip so I may put that clip on later.
Again, they kneel down and so did Caroline.
This might be the happiest moment of Caroline's life so far.
Meanwhile the fairies were disappointing again this year. Caroline had barely walked away from Tinkerbell when she asked if she could have her lollipop back. Ha. Plus Caroline was concerned that the fairies were big when they are supposed to be really small.
Tinkerbell and Caroline kneeling...
My one turn on the tea cups...I only rode one time. I get motion sick anyway so I figured adding on a pregnancy wouldn't make for much fun on the tea cups.
After our final night at MK we went for a nice, relaxing Italian dinner...and Caroline fell asleep on the chairs while we ate. You know she's tired when she actually admits to being sleepy and wants to lay down.

Caroline says...
Last night Caroline was sitting on Kevin's lap and said the following:
"Daddy, do you know how much I love you? I love you from 'Santonio' to Dallas to 'Alabamba' and back to 'Santonio' and more." I know Kevin will never forget that.
Also while she was at church daycare yesterday while I was at MOPS, Caroline could make a Valentine and a cookie for anyone and she chose Kevin. She was so excited last night to give Kevin his Valentine and cookie when he came home from work.
